What began as a one-off collaboration in a small Irish pub in Hermosa Beach has blossomed into two weeks of shows up and down the West Coast featuring Philadelphia's Don "Big D" McCloskey, and Southern California's slackstring and Latch Key Kid.

The idea to tour together was conceived shortly after McCloskey flew out to to Southern California for some shows, including a slot opening for Latch Key Kid in Hermosa Beach. Gavin Heaney, singer/guitarist for Latch Key Kid, had heard McCloskey's album "Bombs Over Bristol" and insisted that McCloskey play after Latchkey Kid. "Big D is the man - he's a true performer and pays homage to Dylan with a G. Love style. I was honored to share the stage with him." Heaney said.

In return, McCloskey asked if Latch Key Kid would back him up. "I don't usually play with a band, but these cats knew the songs - I never expected it to work or sound as good as it did." McCloskey is already a showman, and having a band behind him gave him the freedom to work the crowd ever more. His music has that rare ability to rub down your weary soul with soothing sonic oils and then abruptly smack your buttocks when you least expect it.

McCloskey's style is uncatergorizable, which by the way, is a word. One listen is enough to realize that he's a little bit country, he's a little bit rock-and-roll (not to mention hip-hop, folk and funk). Don's career to date has been all but ignored by the music industry at large. His pursuit of music, however, has landed him a few Philadelphia music awards, some appearances on VH1, a few songs on Philadelphia radio, a tour with G. Love and Special Sauce and a song on Micheal Moore's "Bowling For Columbine." Also, he recently gained notoriety amongst a few of his sisters' friends and a couple of guys who work with his buddy. So it's all-good.

Heaney's other band, slackstring, will join the Big-D-Tour for the SoCal dates.

Since the release of the 16mm mountain bike film The Collective, mountain bikers from all over North America have been begging for a slackstring tour, but logistically it's not possible right now, so Heaney is taking Latch Key Kid out to feed the pent-up demand. With a new slackstring album and a debut Latch Key Kid album coming out this fall, Heaney is anxious to play his new material outside his home turf of Los Angeles. "We're nearly done recording the new slackstring album and we'll be playing new songs, as well as music from the Van album and songs from the upcoming Latch Key Kid album."

Each night will feature seamless set changes, with McCloskey hopping onto stage when the spirit moves him for a mashup of folk-funk-grooves guaranteed to get the crowd jumping. Join us on the Big-D-Tour!!!
