With the release of their second album titled "Something Gone", the Cactus Hunters continue to bring a rich musical history and tradition into the brave new century.
Like the earlier self-titled debut album, "Something Gone" is distinguished by its honest, stark, and diverse songs and songwriting as well as its sweet, raw, and emotional guitar and musicianship. With the song writing of Lance Juckas and brothers Brad and Fred Scribner,(Little Sammy Davis, Levon Helm, Delbert McClinton) the Cactus Hunters conjure a collection of gritty, soulful, often funny and unsettling songs that weld together elements of rock and roll, country, folk, roots, rockabilly, blues and anything else dragged up from the great Americana scrap heap.
As the debut album had long-time friend and Woodstock institution Professor Louie (The Band, Rick Danko, Mercury Rev, Levon Helm, Dave Brubeck) adding keyboard, accordion, mixing, and his technical skills. The new album has West Coast friends Max Butler (Red Meat, Chuck Prophet, Kelly Willis) on Pedal Steel and Mando Cello, Teal Collins (The Mother Truckers, Third Eye Blind) singing back-up, Mike Emerson on keyboards, and Chuck Prophet sits in for a song on guitar.
Songs of the Cactus Hunters tell resonant stories that are testimonials to desolation, dislocation, impossible love, resilience, bold stupidity, and while always trying hard to avoid it--transcendence.

Obijuan writes original material filled with powerful guitar arrangements and catchy hooklines.He has a futuristic vision to regain the former glory of positive guitar playing.Obijuan is always looking for new plateaus to launch his sound. He has cds in many styles from funk,dance,pop,pop rock, to christian and crossover country with his other band JPStarr. Obijuan is an experienced studio musician. Harley Van Kirk has been singing and performing since the age of 16. His professionalism and well sought after vocal talent gained him much respect in the hard rock genre of music.
In the 80s, he was vocalist for a band called SURGICAL STEEL, that performed with the fury of such metal acts as JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, and QUEENSRYCHE. Knowing, and performing with the members of Judas Priest, Harley absorbed true professional insight towards performance. Through these influences, Harley forged a style and sound that is what metal stands for. Mainstream metal is where Harley stands now.
Due to the prevalent exposure one can attain through the world wide web, Harley stands out within the growing industry of independently released new artists. His new contribution, is the conceptual album: THE NEW MESSIAH.
This album deals with a hypothetical individual that goes through life, and acquires the pieces of the puzzle, to come up with what truly upholds an interesting and enjoyable album.
