First of all, the Small Business Administration ("SBA") defines small business as an independent business with fewer than 500 employees. With that in mind, consider the following statistics: 1) Small businesses represent 99.7 percent of the U.S. all employers, and pay 43.3 percent of the total private U.S. payroll. 2) Small businesses have created 60-80% of all net new jobs over the last 10 years. 3) Small businesses are employers of 39% of high tech workers, including scientists, engineers and computer workers. 4) Small businesses are 53% home based, and 3% franchises. 5) Small businesses number over 27 million. 6) Of all small businesses, women owned 5.4 million of them and generated over $819 billion dollars of revenue.
